I have been in the consumer technology business so long that sometimes I get jaded the umpteenth time someone introduces the next easiest way to network your home entertainment content or shows off a security camera that lets you watch your Golden Retriever eat the couch or your new baby bibble. The leading security companies, including Schlage, Panasonic and ADT, don’t produce a mass market security product that you can easily install yourself. In reality, they usually require a third party installer or two solid days on the phone with tech support. In my experience, their products are difficult to install and operate no matter how adept you are at whole house network sharing or wireless home computing.

Richard Sherwin’s Consumer Tech:Brother Can You Spare Some Tech Support
September 2010: New York, N.Y. Recently I worked with some of the greatest names in technology. Between my family, my friends and even a few frenemies that needed a bit of audio-video-computer home networking advice, I had to deal with Panasonic, Linksys, Sony, Nintendo, Brother, Kodak, Epson, LG, Schlage Lock Co., HP, Sharp, Verizon, Cablevision and several other manufacturers or service providers whose products had to be installed or were acting up and required technical support.

Neither has a backlight, which I find very annoying when I’m trying to read in bed and my husband’s trying to sleep. I know by not having one, it saves battery life, but I don’t care, I think all e-readers should have them...

By Livia Bergovoy We removed the Sungale Kula TV Player from the box and charged the unit's battery. (Charger is included.) It is a handsome black unit with a 4.3" display. Once the unit was charged we could set up the clock and wifi without consulting...

By Susan Davis I tried a Roomba a few years ago and I must say I wasn’t impressed. Oh, it was fun watching it clean instead of me but it got tangled easily on carpet fringe and, what’s worse, I couldn’t use it where I really wanted to, which was upstairs, because it would immediately head for the stairs, which I had no way to block off. This new one, however, is a different story.
