The First Annual Boomie Awards

In 2012, the consumer electronics industry began paying attention to Boomers.  Sometimes it was by design, at other times by accident.  We’ve picked ten products that we think are the best of what 2012 had to offer for Boomers.  The winners were judged by the following criteria:

  • Boomer friendliness – What makes them attractive for Boomers to use?
  • Design and innovation – What characteristics make them better than what came before?
  • Low Frustration Factor – Can you get them up and running without a lot of time and effort?
  • Value proposition – do you get good bang for the buck?

Smartphone  – Samsung Galaxy Note II – For Boomers, this phone is a real breakthrough.  It begins with an awesome 5 ½” diagonal screen.  It includes Samsung’s “S” pen technology which allows you to write notes and have your handwriting translated into text.  The “S” pen lets you annotate pictures, documents, websites, etc.  The Note II also features an Easy Start mode which allows you to put big button icons on a start page.  The large bright screen makes this one of the first smartphones I can use without reading glasses or other assistance.  It is pricey at almost $300 for the phone with a two year contract on most major carriers.  But given how much it does for Boomers, it’s certainly worth the price  CONTINUE READING
