The Samsung Galaxy Note, A Real iPad Killer

We thought the original Samsung tablets were a better buy than the ubiquitous Apple iPad. And we know that the little known Archos 8.9 inch tablets were arguably the best choice for the budget conscious consumer. And now, for the last few hours, we have been using Samsung’s just released Galaxy Note and it’s not just superior to any tablet we’ve ever tested, it surpasses any lightweight Netbook, or even many laptops.

While the speeds and feeds and general features like the ones on the Note can sometimes be found on newer android tablets, none have some of the work saving, creation driving and even productivity-learning disciplines that can be used at the same time…it’s real multi-tasking.

Throw in the fact that this is the first tablet designed to be used by an easy version of Adobe Photoshop and this is truly a masterful device. Real multiscreen operation (as many as six programs interwoven on its very clear screen) enable a user to run a video app and photo app at the same time, work with both of them and then use the resulting finished project almost instantly.

In fact, we imported a YouTube video and still picture from a browser…edited the picture with Photoshop and sent the multifaceted multimedia project in an email within seconds…something I have never quite mastered on my Mac or PC.

Its main game changing application is a Stylus, dubbed S-Pen, that uses a proprietary pressure sensitive touch and can enable the user to convert regular writing instantly to a word type document. At the same time this stylus can be used for all types of creative applications.

Its main productivity application is Polaris Office, a Microsoft compatible clone, that might even be easier to use than the over-featured Microsoft office 2010.

The operating system is Android Icecreamsandwich which will be automatically upgrade to Android’s next OS called Jellybean.

Similar in design to the Acer and Archos 10.1 tablets, the Samsung (trying not to get into more trouble with Apple) has a letterbox white or black bezels with stereo speakers on either side of the screen. The screen is listed as a 1280-by-800 LCD screen, but we thought it was brighter than the iPad and equal to the Archos 10.1.

The 16 gig wifi only model is already on sale at many national and regional retailers at $499. The 32 gig model is $539. The phone company models will which will come with cellular capabilities will be priced by the carriers..

Another iPad killer feature is that the Note 10.1 takes up to an additional 32 gig of storage with a micro sd card. Older Samsung models require an adapter for that and Apple still doesn’t offer any additional storage in any of their Tablets..

The Galaxy Note has the requisite all in one home remote control built in that will work with non-Samsung TVS, stereos and Blue Ray Players, too.

So to sum up, because the Note has so many extra capabilities that the S-Pen offers and because of the ease of use of its productivity and educational tools, the average consumer who purchases this unit will be delighted..

Because of the excellent processor speed and since that truly there are just as many good games and challenging applications that come with the Android Playstore App marketplace, Geeks will be very very happy with this device.

And since this is a device that can appeal to everyone, this unit is now our top rated Tablet of any size.

And I dare any Apple fanatic to match all the features of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 with an iPad (even the one due this fall).
