“ZOMBIES” on the Loose in Southern California
By Katharine Czechowski
Treyach, video game developers of the wildly successful first person shooter Call of Duty franchise have released in conjunction with Activision Publishing, Inc. a 17 song compilation soundtrack pulled from the popular Call of Duty zombie maps.
After the debut of the first zombie map dubbed Nact Der Untoten (German for “Night of the Undead”), a survival-type game mode in Call of Duty: World at War, gamers were instantly hooked spurring Treyarch to match the demand by releasing seven more zombie maps. With the release of the newly added map Ascension on February 1, 2011 there are eight total zombie maps players can snipe and shoot their way through.
All songs featured on the Zombie soundtrack were written, performed and produced in-house at Treyarch Studios with the song titled “115” rising on the itunes charts and is the most downloaded song from the album according to the number of sales. Songs including “115”, “Beauty of Annihilation” and “Lullaby of a Deadman” feature vocals by video game producer Elena Siegman and the metal/rock instrumentals of Kevin Sherwood, Treyarch sound designer and composer. Other songs on the album include work from Brian Tuey, Treyarch Audio Director and James McCawley, Treyarch sound designer.
Fans first heard the haunting vocals of Elena Siegman, who is better known more for her
Americana and Punk style, during the fourth zombie co-op map Der Reise in Call of Duty: World at War which was released back in 2009 in the 3rd map pack.
Interestingly enough in the 6th zombie map ironically named Five, players can assume the roles of key historical figures during the Cold War including John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Robert McNamara and Fidel Castro to defend the Pentagon from waves of zombie attacks.
Fans of Call of Duty: Black ops, the first of the series to be set during the Cold War, can
download the soundtrack in its entirety for $9.99 or individually for $0.99 per song on iTunes. But true gamers can rock out to the soundtrack by unlocking the tracks triggered by game play.
